Potsdam Day Bike Tour
Potsdam: Biking Paradise in an UNESCO World Heritage City

(Please scroll down for meeting point and meeting time information). Potsdam is Berlin’s most popular day-trip destination and for good reason. It’s a veritable playground for biking with many Prussian and Cold War sights tucked deep in parks and along quiet alleyways. Potsdam is a UNESCO World Heritage sight and no matter where you turn it seems there's another palace, city gate, or important part of Cold War history. It's flat, green, bike-friendly and much more than just the "Versailles of Berlin". It's a memorable day away from the hustle and bustle of Berlin and we relaxingly cover about 8 - 10 miles over about 5 hours there.
We meet at our shop at the TV Tower and then take bikes with us on the train to Potsdam. Once we arrive in Potsdam we begin by exploring the royal palaces of around Sansoucci Park. We take plenty of time to see the palaces before going on to the historic city center. From there we go to a delightful beer garden literally in the middle of the former no-man's-land of the Cold War before exploring the impressive Cecilienhof Palace. We continue going over the Glienicke Bridge Checkpoint where many spies traded hands during the Cold War. From there it's another amazing ride along the water seeing the former residences of Churchill, Stalin, and Truman where they stayed during the Potsdam Conference at the end of World War II. We end by taking the train back to Berlin.
Sanssouci: Explore the New Palace, Orangerie, the windmill, gardens and Fredrick the Great’s famous Sanssouci Palace. You'll be amazed by the number, splendor, and diversity of the palace grounds.
Historic Center: Ride through Potsdam’s Brandenburg Gate and through the Dutch quarter. Compare the quaintness of Potsdam with the big-city feel of Berlin.
New Gardens: See the fantastic Marble Palace before going into Cecilienhof, where Truman, Stalin, and Churchill concluded the Potsdam Agreement. Cecilienhof entry and audio guide are included! (Reg. EUR 6)
Cold War: Ride through no-man’sland between West Berlin and East Germany and over the Glienicke Bridge where Cold War spy exchanges routinely took place. We talk about life on both sides of the Berlin Wall and you'll easily be able to see the impact the Wall had and still has on the Berlin Wall.
